Brief History:

In March 1977, Doug Goulette(Ogemaw Heights Senior) was asked to head a youth program for 1st - 8th grade. This request came from Jim Grey, Ogemaw Heights Varsity Wrestling Coach and Ogemaw Co. Community Ed Director. The team of 30 eager little wrestlers attended approx. four tournaments that season and one dual meet with Whittemore Prescott. Danny Dunn and Rodney Bragg happily volunteered to assistant with coaching.

"I remember taking a bus with these 30 youth to Oscoda to compete. Our little wrestlers brought home the gold that day as about 25 of them earned medals." Doug remembers fondly.

Through the years, several of our youth have grown up had children of their own and come back to volunteer and make this program strong and proud.

*It may take some digging but I know there is video of Coach Ward Kimball wrestling as a youngster.

The Ogemaw Youth Wrestling Team is celebrating  30 + years as a proud part of this community. We pride ourselves on teaching children ages 5 to 14 years old the art of Folkstyle wrestling,  sportsmanship, leadership and respect. We have a dedicated group of coaches, board members and parents that love watching these children grow and learn to work as a team. Several of these volunteers wrestled in this program as youngsters themselves. We have Bulldog Pride!
